Research

We are a group working on the design, synthesis, and application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Current work includes vacancy chemistry in MOFs, MOFs with multicomponents, and their applications in energy storage.

RESEARCH

The adsorption and recognition properties of porous crystalline materials come from the host-guest interactions in the pores. However, due to the complexity on the interface, we still lack the deep understanding of the physics and chemistry involved in the specific host-guest interactions. Working in the interdisciplinary area between coordination chemistry, organic supramolecular chemistry and electrochemistry, our group have been investigating the host-guest interactions that happen in the pores of crystalline microporous materials. We introduced host-guest recognition, which usually happens in the solution state, to the interface of solid and solution in the pores.  Research on the host-guest interactions between the intrinsic vacancies in the crystals and the incoming ions has introduced a new strategy to build multi-component materials with multi-functionalities by filling the vacancies.  Recently, we have explored the use of metal–organic frameworks to recognize, enrich, and transport electrochemical related molecules and ions to enhance the performance of lithium-based batteries.
